Melbourne Beach musician Billy Chapman recently was chosen by rocker Peter Frampton to be the opening act for Frampton's performance this month at the House of Blues in Orlando.
Frampton once was named Rolling Stone magazine's Artist of the Year and is known for such albums as "Frampton Comes Alive."
"My wife and I were in New Orleans for my 40th birthday when House of Blues called and asked if I'd be interested in the opening slot," said Chapman. "They said they would put my name in a hat with some other solo acoustic musicians and Peters' management would make the final call. So I was doubly pleased when I got the gig."
The show was set to take place Oct. 19 at House of Blues at Downtown Disney in Orlando.
Chapman, a local legend, said he was excited about opening for a singer whose music he has loved since boyhood.
"I knew it would be great to meet him personally and get to know him a bit; maybe give him a new CD," said Chapman.
In the past, Chapman has been the opening act for other well-known musicians, including Delbert McClinton and Buddy Guy.
In addition to his solo work at such notable venues as House of Blues, Chapman continues to head up the band, "A Million Tiny Fingers," a local favorite for the past 10 years. He also instructs up-an-coming musicians by giving guitar lessons twice a week at A+ Music in Melbourne
